At our meeting on February 8, we had a wonderful demo by Maryland Hall Artist-in-Residence, Anne Hathaway Chamberlain. The theme of her demo was “Skin Tones and the Gentle Planes of the Figure”. Her approach is meticulous and illustrative. Her style tends toward the more hyper detailed, and focuses on consistent, patient layering. For her demo, she worked on a small portion of a very large (half-sheet) work. She uses a tiny travel palette and small brushes, layering on thin washes of color in a very controlled manner. She also showed us several of her completed paintings, and a slide show of works in progression from drawing to finished painting.
