Our March demonstrator was Pam Wenger. Since she retired from teaching in 2012, Pam has fallen in love with portraiture in watercolor. Pam began by showing us her technique for creating accurate drawings with the aid of an app called Procreate on her IPad. She showed us a brief video demonstrating the technique; you can view the video on her website, pamwenger.com Then she proceeded to do a ‘quick sketch’ portrait of a young man from a reference photo. She started with the shadows on his face, using washes of primarily burnt sienna. She continued to add layers of color, adding depth to the shadows and defining the features. By the end of the evening, a striking portrait was emerging. She concluded by showing us a painting she had completed earlier of the same young man. What an amazing demo!
