President's Letter
Where has this year gone? I feel like I blinked my eyes and here we are at December’s doorstep. I had so many things I wanted to get done and still so many things I want to do. I guess I will have to adjust my calendar and set up some new goals for next year.
I have decided to declare my New Year’s resolution early. This year I will stack up all my unfinished paintings and finish every one of them. It may take me all year, but that is not the main goal here. My goal is to work through all the issues I had. With the help of my painting instructor, I will learn how to fix mistakes. I want to be like one of the students in my class who uses Mr. Clean spray, or takes her whole painting and runs it under cold water to start over. I want to be fearless like her! I don’t want watercolor to own me, I want to own it! I don’t want to be afraid anymore. So, this year I confront my watercolor fears and press forward! To make sure I keep my commitment, I vow to place my paintings in the AWC Members Art Salon. Ok, I have said it and now I need to make it so! I hope you will be joining us for our Holiday Celebration on December 14th this year! It will be held at the Live Arts Studio in the Westfield Mall in Annapolis. There will be a catered lunch with music and other festivities. Please look for more information in this Newsletter, and in an upcoming invitation with R.S.V.P.
During December 2022 I have decided to celebrate/observe a couple of National or Federal dates: 4th – National Cookie Day, 7th – National Letter Writing Day, 12th – Gingerbread Decorating Day, 15th – National Cupcake Day, International Tea Day, 16th- National Chocolate Covered Anything Day, 17th – National Ugly Sweater Day, 21st – National Crossword Puzzle Day, 23rd – National Christmas Movie Marathon Day, and best of all the 30th – National Bacon Day. I hope that you have a great December, Wonderful Kwanzaa, Happy Hanukkah or Merry Christmas! I would also like to wish you a New Year filled with Peace, Happiness and Good Will!

We are looking forward to our annual exhibit at the Gallery at Ginger Cove in Annapolis. If you have already entered, this is a reminder to bring your paintings to the gallery on Saturday, December 17, between 9:00 and 10:00 am. Your paintings will remain there on exhibit until Friday, February 3. Please pick up that morning between 9:00 and 11:00 am.
There is no reception but you are welcome to bring friends to see the installation at any time. Masks are appreciated any time you are in the building.
We have no exhibits planned for the next several months, but are starting to work on a special Earth Day themed event in April. If that materializes, you’ll hear more about it in the next newsletter.
If any of you know of a possible venue where we might exhibit, please let me know. We’re always open to suggestions.
I hope to see all of you at the December 14th Luncheon. Happy Holidays to all.

MONTHLY FEATURED ARTIST
By Newsletter Editor, Connie Robinson
Becky T. Lindberg
|
|
|
Becky was raised in
western Pennsylvania, but has lived most of her life in Maryland. After
teaching nursing at the University of Maryland at Baltimore for several years,
she changed direction and earned another degree, this time in English and art, from
the College of Notre Dame of Maryland. Soon afterwards, her short story “The
Mud Thing” won the “Highlights for Children Humorous Fiction Contest.” This was
followed by the publication of three novels for children (the Chelsea Martin series,
now out of print).
After obtaining a
Master’s of Library Science degree, she worked as a librarian with the
Baltimore County Public Library. Since retirement, she has focused more on art than
writing and began watercolor painting about four years ago. She joined the
Annapolis Watercolor Club after taking an AACC course in floral painting from Carolyn
Councell. In October of this year, she studied with the well-known painter Skip
Lawrence during a week-long workshop at the Mount Providence Conference Center.

SUNSHINE CLUB
Well, I don't know about you, but I am so full of turkey I find it hard to hold a paint brush. And, that is a shame because the world will soon be full of "still life" ideas - like twinkly stars, ball-laden Christmas trees, snow globes, candles, prancing animals, and the like. A season full of emotion. It is also the time to support each other as members of a giving organization. If you know a member needing support, or perhaps congratulations on a show or award, do let us know so our Sunshine Committee can dash off an appropriate and colorful Jacquie Lawson e-card. Please send their name, email and occasion to sunshine.AWC.dw@gmail.com and a card will be winging its way promptly.
Thank you, Dina Weavers

All members will be receiving a dues reminder for 2023 in a few days. Dues are still just $35 per year! When you receive your dues notice, the link in the email will take you to a log-in page (unless you are already logged in). Use your email address as your user name and select "Forgot Password" if you have not logged in before or don’t have your password. Once logged in, you should be taken to your member profile. You will see a "RENEW TO JAN 01, 2024" button part-way down the profile page. Just above the button, you will see "Renewal due on" date, so you can check to make sure you have not already paid. Your on-line payment is secure, and this method of payment is easiest for our treasurer, but we will still accept checks if you prefer.
