Letter from the President:

Every once in a while you need to shake things up a little bit.  Don’t let yourself get in a rut, or get bored.  Remember the song with the words ---This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine!   What a great time to bring back something that re-kindles that fire in your soul, or maybe something that sparks a new flame.  For some reason I have neglected a favorite passion – music.  At a recent birthday party I attended the pianist re-kindled music for me.  I enjoyed listening so much I could not wait to get home and pull out all my CDs and start a whole new chapter.  The TV is going to have to take a back seat while music and painting take center stage.

What painting are you going to bring to our Art Salon during our Holiday Party on December 11?  We all really enjoy looking at what has inspired you to paint.  There is such a diversity of subject matter and it is amazing to see how each of us are growing as artists.  Come enjoy some wonderful food prepared by our caterer and bring a dessert you might like to share.   We will be having our gift exchange of art related items.  Most importantly, come to enjoy the comradery with your watercolor painting friends and meet some new club members.  Do not be afraid to wear some sparkle, shimmer, or shine to celebrate the holiday.

As we approach our 50th Year Anniversary, we will do our best to surprise, excite and delight you.  There will be exhibits, excursions/trips, headliner artists for your demonstrations -- both on Zoom and in person -- monthly Art Salons for you to show your artwork – both on Zoom and in person -- our April Spring fling where you get your paintings critiqued -- a hands-on meeting where you can try new watercolor products -- sketching and plein air events, and many opportunities to interact with the community.  We are always open to new ideas and will do everything in our power to help you increase your watercolor painting skills.  We want to see you try new techniques, share what you have learned in one of our monthly Art Salons, enter a painting in an exhibit, or just paint for your own enjoyment.  Maybe share what you’ve learned with your children, grandchildren or a neighbor.  Watercolor painting has a way of bringing out the best in us, if we just give it a chance.  So next year will be about being our very best watercolor painting selves and belonging to a watercolor painting club that enriches our lives.

Wishing You and Yours, A Very Blessed Holiday!

Juanita Green, President

EXHIBITS

GINGER COVE ANNUAL EXHIBIT
SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 16, 2024 TO FRIDAY, JANUARY 3, 2025

As we are all preparing for the delightful but busy holiday season ahead, with parties, gifts and family gatherings, you might enjoy taking some time out and visiting our beautiful exhibit at Ginger Cove, now through January 3. The residence is located at 4000 River Crescent Drive in Annapolis. If you haven’t been there before, just ask at the front desk and the receptionist will gladly direct you to the gallery.

EXHIBITS CELEBRATING 50 YEARS

The year 2025 marks the 50th anniversary of our founding and we are celebrating with several exhibits.

First will be “50 Years on the Chesapeake” at the Annapolis Maritime Museum. The subject matter is vast and varied, anything pertaining to the Chesapeake Bay and its marine, maritime or ecology. Or just its beauty and the joy it brings to all of us. It could include a placid waterscape, a stormy sky or fleeting  sunset over the Bay, boats, boatyards, shorelines, waterfowl, swimming, fishing or boating, and so much more. If it relates to the Bay it will find a home in this show.

The museum is located at 723 Second Street, Annapolis MD 21403 and exhibit hours are 10:00 to 3:00 Tuesday to Sunday.

The deadline for entries is January 11 so don’t wait to sign up. Two entries per artist, including a digital image of each painting. Please register on the website. https://annapoliswatercolorclub.org/Upcoming-Exhibits. This is going to be a splendid opening of our jubilee year.

Please be sure to read the disclaimers and waivers on the website before signing. This is slightly different from our usual, especially the paragraph about photographs taken at public events held at the Museum, and possibly posted on social media.

Deadline for entries will be January 11, 2025

Delivery date will be February 17, with pick up on March 17
There will be a gala catered reception on February 21, 5:00 to 7:00

(parking information will follow)

Coming up in April 2025 will be our annual celebration of Earth Day at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Eastport. It’s only a one-day exhibit but is always well received by the many visitors.

Then our major celebration of our Golden Anniversary will be back at Quiet Waters (after a confusing mix-up over a construction date). We’ll definitely be exhibiting in the beautiful visitors’ center in the park from May 21 to July 6. Be thinking about paintings that include gold (either the metal, the pigment color or gold metallic paint. This will be an enjoyable challenge and we have room for close to 100 paintings.

Then we will round out the year with our annual exhibit at Ginger Cove from November 8, 2025 to January 2, 2026

My wishes to everyone for a joyous holiday season.

FEATURED ARTIST
OF THE MONTH

Portrait painter, Jennifer Kohn Murtha, maintains her studio in bucolic Baltimore County. She has studied with some of Baltimore's best portrait painters, including Ann Didusch Schuler, Elizabeth Byrd Mitchell, Matt Zoll and Palden Hamilton and is a graduate of the storied Schuler School of Fine Art.

She paints full-time, both commissioned and non-commissioned portraits and landscapes and has taught numerous workshops for novices to pros alike. The artist also teaches part-time at Community College of Baltimore County, where she uses her classical education to help students to achieve their dreams.

Her work is in collections across the United States, Europe and Africa, plus one painting, a landscape, was bought by HBO for their program Veeps. Hosted at a landmark benefit by The Portrait Society of America and The Zoll Studio, Jennifer was filmed painting a portrait of a breast cancer survivor, for a documentary called The Cure, to be shown at the Cannes Film Festival, Sundance Films and the Academy Awards in 2015. Bottom line, she says: "I was born, I paint."
