Letter from the President:
Did you attend our 50th Anniversary Golden Gala Exhibit reception, at Quiet Waters Park on
Sunday, May 25, 2025 from 1:30-3:30 pm? The reception was catered by A&A Catering, and Jenny Cawood was our awards
judge. Awards were given to members as
well as local guest artists participating in the show. The Friends of Quiet Waters Park had
installed signage throughout the park advertising our Art Show. Consequently, we had a lot of park visitors
coming through and enjoying our artwork as well as members who brought family
and friends. What a wonderful afternoon
making memories and celebrating our 50th Golden Anniversary!
Be sure to
check this Newsletter for two different Plein Air/Sketching opportunities the month of June; one during the week and one on the weekend. What a great opportunity to hone your
sketching skills and/or paint outside in the great outdoors.
VOLUNTEERS – This club runs on Volunteer Power!
The more
people who offer to volunteer, the more programs and opportunities will become
available to us. We are working to
cross-train members to fill in for a chairperson who may be out sick, on
vacation or unavailable. Chairpersons
need to attend one board meeting a month and will have a vote on important club
decisions. Perhaps you only want to volunteer
to help with one event a year. That is fine, but you need to let us know so we can contact you. All you have to do is place your name, phone
number and what you would like to volunteer for - in the red box at the back of the
room in Seelos Hall on June 11 at our Members' Meeting. We will contact you and provide any
necessary training. Essentially, we
would like to have two people for each position; the chairperson and a
back-up person. Currently we have (2) people supporting Salon and (2) people supporting Plein Air. It
works!
As a
volunteer you not only support our club but our community! We need your ideas,
your energy and enthusiasm!
Juanita
Green, President

She envisions her semi-abstract watercolors as imaginative works using strong lines and bold colors to create a sense of movement and interest.
Joan’s piece (right) below entitled "Tempest" (22” x 15") was a featured painting from the Baltimore Watercolor Society’s "From Pigment to Pixels" All-Member Online Exhibition.

Sketching/Plein Air Event: Willow Oak Flower and Herb Farm on May 20
Review By Jan Morris
Willow Oak Farm is one of the best locations to paint plein air! Nature abounds from every nook and cranny and washes into the wide-open pond and patios. It’s quiet (except for the new roof installment) and there are many places to sit. The six of us scattered through the trails and got to work on a partly sunny but cool day. We met at the end to discuss our work. Everyone praised the location and would like to come back again. Let’s do it! Here are some photos from that beautiful day!

May 21 - July 6, 2025
Our Golden Anniversary Gala exhibit at Quiet Waters is now installed and is a beautiful representation of the Annapolis Watercolor Club and its creative artists. Each piece in the exhibit was embellished with gold, either leaf, paint or golden color. The reception on Sunday afternoon, May 25 was crowded and the whole atmosphere was joyous as our many guests celebrated with us.
The exhibit was perfectly installed by the dedicated Friends of Quiet Waters Park Art Committee, led by David Diaz along with Ottilie and John Habercam, and our thanks go out to them for their usual perfection. Receiving day was a bit hectic with so many artists arriving all at once early in the morning, between 8:00 and 9:00 A.M. and I’d like to thank Kris Angelis, Janice Hendra and Terri Jackson for their gracious assistance checking everyone in.
Our club was founded 50 years ago by a dedicated group of artists under the leadership of the renowned watercolor artist, Joanne Scott. Thanks go out to Connie Robinson for putting together a tribute to Joanne with a continuously running “slide show” of many of her paintings, a biography, and small framed painting by Joanne displayed in the gallery.
The Best In Show Award winner was Guest Artist, Angela Di Cicco for "Matador."
The AWC member winners were: First Place, Karen Norman, for “Deflection;" Second Place, Kay Fuller for “Carnival Jester,” and Third Place Theresa Jackson for "Valletta Reflections." Honorable Mentions, selected by Friends of Quiet Waters Park volunteers who chose 2 paintings that they felt best exemplified Quiet Waters Park, went to Annette Uroskie for “Golden Morning” and Joan Machinchick for “First Light, December Wetlands.” The Children’s Award, selected by six-year-old Thomas Hempel was presented to Cheryl Duvall for her “Nest of Dreams.”
In addition to our AWC members, the exhibit was open to several Guest (non-member) Artists, whose work was exhibited in the Garden Gallery at the Visitors’ Center. The winners in the Guest Artists category were: First Place, Carole Falk for “A Dream”; Second Place, Nancy Thomas, “Morning Gold”; and Third Place, Lynn Gosman, “Immersion.”
The paintings will remain in the Quiet Waters Galleries until July 6. I encourage everyone to go and enjoy the outstanding artwork in this unique exhibit. And while there, spend some time strolling the lovely wooded paths that contribute to making Quiet Waters the jewel in the crown of Anne Arundel County.
Below are some photos by Connie Robinson from the May 25th reception. Joan Machinchick, Exhibits Chair
