Join us for our monthly member's meeting on September 10, 2025, from 6:30-8:30pm EST, via Zoom, as we welcome our online demonstrator Emma Speelman (Lian). 

Emma Speelman is a watercolor artist who finds joy in capturing the beauty of nature through vibrant, detailed paintings. She began her watercolor journey in July 2021 while living in Tom Price, a remote town in Western Australia’s outback. While planning her wedding, she was inspired to paint a flower from her florist, and what began as a creative experiment quickly became a passion. She even painted her own bridal bouquet, which led her to offer custom bouquet preservation paintings as part of her work today.

Emma’s greatest inspiration comes from the world around her. She is constantly observing and gathering ideas, from flowers blooming in different seasons, to fallen leaves in the park, to the vibrant displays at local farmers markets. This sense of everyday discovery drives her art, whether she is creating detailed botanicals, her Farmers Market Series, or one-of-a-kind commissions like pet portraits and bouquet paintings.

Her work has been collected internationally and has appeared in British Vogue’s Gallery (December 2024, January 2025, February 2025, and June 2025 editions). She has also finalized her 2026 Birth Flower Calendar, which will be available on her website soon. Alongside originals, Emma creates her own fine art giclée prints in-house, carefully producing each one with archival inks and museum-grade paper to ensure a quality that matches her originals. She regularly shares her process on her YouTube channel and Instagram and connects with collectors in person at art markets.

    ART SALON:  Please bring your current art work, sketches and paintings to share with others. They will be displayed and there will be paper and pens for people to write their reactions to your work, which you can take home.

    WHO IS INVITED: All Annapolis Watercolor Club members, and those interested in becoming members.

    2:15 pm:  Halloween Tricks and Watercolor Treats with Eileen Hempe

    October is here, and with it comes a special treat for our club! We’re excited to host “Halloween Tricks and Watercolor Treats” on October 8th — an afternoon full of fun, creativity, and surprises. There will be over $1,500 in art supplies available for members to try, plus goody bags for the first 50 people through the doors, and a few extra giveaways you’ll have to attend to discover.

    Just like the brilliant reds, oranges, and golds that light up the season, this event is a chance to immerse yourself in the rich colors of fall. Think of the fiery maples, glowing pumpkins, and crisp autumn skies — all waiting to be captured in paint. It is the perfect opportunity to experiment with warm palettes, layer textures, and explore techniques that bring out the depth and vibrancy of the season. Most of all, it is a chance to celebrate together, connect,
    and share inspiration drawn from the beauty all around us.
